Our Collective purpose

The Association of Black Social Workers of Greater Los Angeles (ABSWGLA) provides a structure and forum for Black Social Workers and related professionals to exchange ideas, offer services, and develop programs benefiting the Black community. We believe in the power of community and the importance of education in creating a brighter future.

ABSWGLA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization composed of professionals and community workers dedicated to addressing the numerous challenges facing the Black community. By becoming a member, you join a vibrant network of professionals dedicated to social justice, advocacy, and continuous learning. Our memberships provide a range of benefits designed to support your personal, academic and professional development.

Our Objectives

  • To support, develop, or sponsor community welfare projects and programs serving the interests of the Black community.

  • To fight racial injustice in any form.

  • To aid in the economic and cultural development of the Black community.

  • To assist Black social workers in entering graduate schools of Social Work and advocate for changes in education and training policies.

Requirements for Membership

  • Any person of African Ancestry who accepts and adheres to the ABSWGLA Constitution and Bylaws may become a member.

  • Members must be willing to work for and support the Association’s objectives, attend membership meetings, serve on committees, and pay annual dues.
